BETTY JEAN TRAVIS, 73; Passed Jan. 02, 2017. Cherished mother, grandmother, sister, relative and friend. Services Wed. Jan.; wake 10AM, funeral 10:30AM at New Community Bible Fellowship, 3557 Washington Blvd. 44118. Public viewing Tues. until 7PM at Watson's Funeral Home, 10913 Superior Ave. 44106. Betty Jean Travis was born in Florence, Alabama on June 13, 1943 to the late John Armstead and Earlean Moore-Mattison. Both parents and brother, Henry Armstead preceded her in death. Betty was the eldest child born. Betty began her journey with Christ at an early age in Florence, Alabama. Later she relocated to Cleveland, Ohio and moved her membership to Second Lakeview Baptist Church. Betty attended Cleveland Public Schools, and graduated from John Hay High School in 1961. She attended Miracle Revival Center where she met and married Otis Redmond, Jr., and to this union one son was born. Betty's loving nature and caring ways guided her to become very active in her community. She was an active member of Florence Alabama Club, Tuscora Street Club, as well as, the FlipX Club, where they traveled and held parties in her younger years. Betty would welcome friends into her home with a warm heart because she loved to entertain. Betty was a longtime member of the Eastern Star faithful member of Hadassah Chapter 119. Betty worked for Cleveland Clinic for twenty years and for the City of Cleveland for fifteen years from which she retired. Betty's favorite hobbies includes, but are not limited to, gathering with family members and friends; eating good food, and being the social butterfly that she was loved and well known to be because she never met a stranger, and if she did they would later become her friend. Betty departed this life on Monday, January 2, 2017. She leaves to cherish her precious memories; two loving and devoted sons, Jeffery Ricardo Redmond and Thomas Neil Travis Jr.; one granddaughter, Tyiesha Jeanette Johnson; two great granddaughters, Heaven and Harmony Cauley; three brothers; John Lee Johnson, Kevin Armstead and Henry Armstead (deceased); three sisters, Diane Johnson, Brenda Glover (Charles) and Doris (Joe) Totten; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends.
