Annie C. Johnson

Annie C. Johnson was called home to be with the Lord on December 10, 2014. She was born on June 6, 1925 in Wetumpka, Alabama to the late Hilliard Crenshaw and Ophelia Buycks. She was preceded in death by all of her sisters and brothers, Katie, Susie, Willie, Palmer, Magnolia, Charlie, Cora and Mary. She was surrounded by many family members and loved ones. Annie received her Bachelors and Masters of Education from Alabama State College. She loved her career as a teacher. She taught for over 37 years. She admired her students and gave all of them special treatment. She was well known for being a stern but caring teacher. Annie accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mount Zion Chapel AME Zion Church in Wetumpka, Alabama. Annie moved to Cleveland, Ohio in 1966 and joined Lane Metropolitan CME Church. Annie was a dedicated and faithful member of Lane. She participated with several boards including the Stewardess Board, Eight o'clock Choir and the Missionary Society. When her health began to decline, she continued to send her tithes and offering, when possible. Annie was a surrogate mother to many, including Annetta Fisher, Brenda Gant and Dorothy Blair (deceased) as her daughters, granddaughters, Eliese Fisher, Kessia Williams,Simone Blair and Sonya Blair, and great grandchild, Briana McMillan. Annie shared a close bond with her friend, Sarah Smith who was like a sister to her. Her Godson is also her great-nephew, Paul Crenshaw II. Her niece Betty Crenshaw was her personal nurse. Her two nurse aides, Brandy Cochran and Robin Williams took good care of her on a daily basis. Annie loved to bowl, play bingo, bridge, and other fun card games. She loved to plant her flowers and vegetables. She left a hand written message for her grandchildren to stay in school and work hard. Annie was preceded in death by her oldest daughter Claudette Colon-Latimore, her first husband Sam Grayson, her late husband, Walter Johnson, and her step-son, Walter Johnson, Jr. Annie leaves to mourn her youngest daughter, Janice Brooks, step-children Betty Johnson, Joyce Johnson and Gale Johnson, five grandchildren, Charles Duncan (Risa), Angela Colon, Joe Colon, LaKesha Robinson (Julian), and Renita Brooks, six great-grandchildren, John Duncan III, James Duncan, DeVon Starks, Jade Colon, Quinten Robinson and Andre Colon. Psalm 100: 1-2 "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: Come before his presence with singing." SERVICES SATURDAY, DEC. 13; WAKE 10:00 AM, FUNERAL 11:00 AM at Lane Metropolitan CME Church, 2131 East 46 St. Public viewing Friday until 7 PM at Watson's Funeral Home, 10913 Superior Ave. E. G. Cummings Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery, AL. in charge of final services.
