July 27, 1925 — May 17, 2011

Servies Wednesday, May 25, 2011 - 10:30 A.M. Werner United Methodist Church 2572 Martin Luther King Jr Drive Cleveland, Ohio 44104 Annabelle Francis Coates was born on July 27, 1925 in Roncevert, West Virginia to Dorothy and Louis Kidd. She spent most of her formative life in Charleston, West Virginia. She accepted Christ at an early age and remained very dedicated to church life. Annabelle attended elementary and secondary school in Charleston, having graduated from Garnett High School. She then moved to Baltimore, Maryland to study nursing. Even though she did not complete the entire formal program her zeal for education never diminished. A very giving person her life was spent helping and encouraging others. She was especially insistent upon the value of education. Annabelle met and married Eddie L. Coates in 1952. To this union was born one son, Michael Joseph Coates. Annabelle worked as a homemaker and a domestic support for a number of years. She enhanced her education through diligent study and evening instruction. This training resulted in her employment with the Cleveland Board of Education as a Teachers Aide. Later, she worked as a monitor during the Cleveland Education Desegregation mandate until her retirement. Still interested in people and determined to remain active, Annabelle served as an office worker at the Forest Hills Academy as a part of the Cleveland Senior Employment Program. Annabelle was a faithful member of the Werner United Methodist Church. She served a number of offices and leadership roles with distinction. In addition, she was a member of the Eastern Stars. An avid traveler, Annabelle enjoyed trips to visit family and friends out of town. Annabelle peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. She leaves to mourn her death, a loving son, Michael; grandson, Corey Coates Sr; two great grandchildren, Delisha and Corey Jr.; brother, Earl (who preceded her in death); as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
