Abdul Shaheed Jabbaar was gifted to his parents, Dora Lee Jacobs and John Edward Johnson on March 31, 1944 in Boston Massachusetts. He proudly served in the United States Army from September 17, 1965 and was honorably discharged on Sept 16 1970. After serving his country and returning to the Boston area, he married his former wife Viola Elizabeth Houston and from this union they were blessed with 3 children, Keith Ramon Johnson , Kenneth Anthony Johnson and Jammal Johnson, who transitioned from earth to paradise before him. In 1973, he committed his love to his childhood friend, Marlene Jabbaar, and with this marriage he continued his legacy of parenting that began with Keith , Kenneth, and Jammal, and now includes Charisse, Sitarah, Yvonne, Kim, Glenise, Farad (Glenn), Shakoora, Roshan and Ali Jabbaar (grandson) who he proudly raised as his own.
He was an advocate of higher education, he modeled this by receiving his GED as an adult. He gained an Associate's degree in Finance in 1977 with the support of his wife, Marlene. Due to his determination and drive for success, he went against all odds and accepted an offer in Cleveland, Ohio with Nynex Business Corporation . Uprooting his family, Abdul moved from Boston to Cleveland in the late 80's. He decided to leave corporate America, and became a successful entrepreneur in the early 90's. He owned and operated a successful family boutique, that he named New York and Cleveland Fashions. In the early 2000s he changed his focus and pursued his passion for education in the East Cleveland School district as a member of the school board. Abdul continued to run for the school board every year, even until the day of his transition.
Abdul was a student in the nation of Islam and followed the teachings of the honorable Elijah Muhammed."
After the honorable Elijah's Muhammed's death, Abdul followed the teachings and
leadership in the community led by the honorable Elijah Muhammad's son, Imam Warith Deen Mohammed. Abdul was extremely devoted to Islam and became an Imam shortly after he moved to Cleveland in the late 80's at Masjid Bilal."
Abdul Shaheed Jabbaar was preceded in death by his parents Dora Lee Jacobs and John Edward Johnson, his siblings Shelton, Linda and Brenda Johnson and his son Jammal. He leaves behind 3 sons, Keith and Kenneth Johnson, Glenn Jabbaar and wife Andrea Jabbaar; and 7 daughters Charisse Jabbaar, Sitarah Jabbaar, Yvonne and husband Lannis Pinson, Glenise and husband Steven Wilson (Beanie), Kim Jabbaar, Shakoora and husband Kevin Mynatt , Ali Muktar Jabbaar, and Roshan Jabbaar . Twenty-three grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Special niece Halle Johnson, and a host of other nieces and nephews, family, and close friends from the community. A very special thanks to the the Masjid Bilal Family."
