Mrs. Alberta Lorraine Holt, affectionately known as "Berta" was called home to be with the Lord, July 6, 2021.
Alberta was born on September 19, 1941, in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Albert L. Fann and the late Helen Marie Harris. She attended John Haynes High School. Upon completion she met and married Louis H. McCanelley. To this union they had three children: Renee D. McCanelley-Smith, Rodney L. McCanelley, and Leslie A. McCanelley. In the early 1960's, she secured employment as a secretary, working in City Hall for the city of Cleveland, Ohio. Later, she was promoted to executive secretary, and began working for the former Mayor, George Voinovich. While working there she met and married Harold R. Holt in 1975. In 1982, Alberta made a career change. She became, Chief Investor, for the City of Cleveland Consumer Affairs Department. In 1990 she retired.
Alberta accepted Christ into her life as a young adult. As a member of Sacrificial Baptist church, she was actively involved in many groups working beside her sister, Beverly Harris.
Her hobbies were cooking, baking, sewing, and shopping. She found true join in life when she joined The Order of Eastern Star. The membership gave her the opportunity to use both her hobbies and skills, to benefit the community thru the various activities of the Order, which provided her with some of her fondest memories.
Alberta was preceded in death: by her daughter, Leslie Ann McCanelley, sister, Estelle Ikner, sister Beverly Harris, and husbands: Louis H. McCanelley, Harold R. Holt.
Living to remember and love Alberta are sisters; Sharon Lewis (Cleveland, OH) and Shelly Peterson (California). She is survived by her daughter, Renee (Donald) Smith, Rodney (Erika) McCanelley, eight grandchildren: Marquetta McCanelley, Rodney McCanelley Jr, Iyona Carthon, Quentin McCannelley, Aiden McCanelley, Kogi Daniels, (Albany, GA), Brian Smith (Syracuse, NY), Cameron Smith (Atlanta, GA), and host of other family members and friends.
