Myrna Tubbs Obituary

Myrna Evadney Cummings was born in Georgetown, Guyana, South America on February 19, 1949. She was one of seven children born to Ivy and Claude Cummings, now deceased.

Myrna was fondly known as "the stepper" due to her love of high heel shoes. She seemed to be a model from birth. At less than one year old, Myrna won first place as the best Carnation Baby of the Year. Carnation was a brand of baby food. As a young woman, Myrna, together with her sisters, sewed and modeled beautiful clothes.

Myrna obtained her early education in Guyana and was employed as an accountant with the Ministry of Finance. From there, she was transferred to the Guyana Defense Force (GDF) as a military cadet with financial responsibilities.

Together with other family members, Myrna migrated to the United States in 1979. Upon arrival, she immediately enrolled in a university, continuing in the accounting field. Armed with a bachelor's degree, Myrna entered the banking system. She next served the federal government until her retirement in 2016.

During the Memorial Day weekend of 1983, Myrna found the love of her life - Jerry Tubbs. After a whirlwind romance, Myrna and Jerry were married on June 17, 1984. Thank you, Jerry, for being such a large part of the Cummings family.

One of Myrna's proudest moments was on October 15, 1993 -- the day she raised her right hand to become a United States citizen. US passport in hand, Myrna traveled through Mexico and the Caribbean with friends and family.

On April 10, 2024, Myrna succumbed to the illness that took away her brilliant mind. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Jerry, sisters Joyce Richardson (Sister Belle) Barbara Cummings, Monica Limerick, Claudette Luckie (Michael), and Sandra Cummings as well as her brother Claude Cummings. She is also mourned by cousins Dennis, Megan, Joycelyn, Merlin and others. Her nieces and nephews include Carla, Trevor, Garvey, Marsha, Miquel, Durvey, Yolanda, Shawn, and Casey.

Myrna will be missed by her in-laws Monroe Tubbs (Janice), Tommie Tubbs (Breneda), Patricia Jackson (Peter), Annie McKenzie (Leroy), Joyce Beckham (Anthony), and Michael Tubbs. Myrna will be remembered by the Carringtons as well as her best friend Alicia George and the other Friends of Distinction club members.

Because the list goes on and on, it is impossible to acknowledge everyone who loved and respected Myrna Cummings-Tubbs. Now, it is time for everyone to bid Myrna a fond farewell.
